For the entirety of 2015, every baby born at the Midwife Center for Birth and Women's Health, St. Clair Hospital, and UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh will begin life as an art collector. Twelve local artists were each assigned one month during 2015 and will produce a image that will only be given to babies born in that particular month. I created the Newborn Art Collectors project in 2014 as a way to promote the arts and artists in the Pittsburgh region. A $10,000 Crusade Engagement Grant from Crusade for Art made this project possible and there is absolutely no cost to the families, the hospital, or the artists for this gift. Crusade for Art is a non-profit organization whose mission is to engage new communities with art by supporting artists and inspiring new arts advocates to become collectors. Throughout the year, I am inviting the babies and families to share their photographs using the hastag #StartWithArtPGH.
