Objects in mirror are closer than they appear…
I create documents related to identity, movement, and place in an ever changing world. I craft conceptual landscapes that invite the viewer to consider their own position in our society using a variety of media, ranging from photography and video to audio and installation. The discourse between the seen and the unseen is what prompts me to create art every day.
I draw upon sources as diverse as documentary film footage, an anarchist commune, Census data, and tourist photographs. I search for the obvious in order to turn my back on it. I confront facts in order to create new perspectives. I present situations that unbalance the viewer. I prefer to see my work as a carnival mirror—it takes a well known subject and distorts it just enough to cause you to question the veracity of the scene in question.
